(CH 345) Small
Sepik Mask.
This small mask would have been worn attached to a cane frame covering
the wearers upper body. It has a layer of black pigment and traces of
white and red still evident with a warm brown patina to exposed areas.
The nose shows a carved version of a multi-layered nose adornment and
the forehead has a small three dimensional figure of a bird similar
to other Sepik delta masks.
Originally acquired from Konietzko, Hamburg.
Lower Sepik area.
19th / early 20th Century.
